Product management
Deciding what to build, in what order, and what to leave alone — inside large organisations where the decision has to survive several departments, and in our own companies where the money at risk was ours.
BlueWorkz was founded by Dan Huke, who has run a building company of around twenty people, a software company in Singapore, and spent seventeen years inside major academic publishers in London and Singapore. So the first thing we sell is not code: it is an honest answer to whether software is worth building here at all.
Three kinds of work. They usually arrive in this order, and the first one is where most of the value is.
Deciding what to build, in what order, and what to leave alone — inside large organisations where the decision has to survive several departments, and in our own companies where the money at risk was ours.
Working out how the work actually flows today: who does what, what gets rekeyed by hand, and where a job waits on one person. Written down, so you can disagree with it in specifics.
Where a machine can carry part of a job, and where it cannot yet. The useful answer is narrow — one step, not a department — and sometimes it is that this is not worth doing here.
Everything listed here is Blueworkz Ltd's own: built here, paid for here, and still run here. Client work is not listed, because publishing a client's name needs their written permission.
Asset tracking for companies whose kit moves. Photograph a tool, print a QR label, and scan it on site from a phone. A trading name of Blueworkz Ltd, built here and run here.
Planning-application leads for the building trade: read the council portals every week, put the applications near you on one screen, and post the letter for you. A trading name of Blueworkz Ltd. It has not opened yet.
Talking it through
Nothing here starts with a proposal. Tell us what you are trying to do and we will talk it through first; that conversation costs nothing. If there is a piece of work in it, we will tell you what an assessment would cover and what it would cost before you commit to anything.
